Beehive Coke Oven Project Dunbar Pennsylvania - Part 4
We are now one year later from the time we had the original bricks and stone delivered to the site to build an authentic Beehive coke oven, representing approximately 48,000 of these engineering wonders that existed from the late 1800's until the last one stopped operation in 1972. The Dunbar Historical Society is taking on this incredible challenge as the focal point of the park area, and all the work is being done by volunteers. One of the gentlemen you see in the picture lives in Dunbar and is overseeing the project. He is over 90 years old now, but still knows how you build them.!!! Come see the work in progress sometime. The tourist train runs thru Dunbar on Saturdays from May until late fall.
